throughout the many years it has been awarded. To end the conference, a most moving film was shown entitled A Force More Powerful, about the Danish peoples’ resistance to Nazi occupation during the second World War. This was followed by a reception hosted by Martin Bell OBE, chair of the Movement for the Abolition of War.
Both the IPB and MAW are to be warmly congratulated on presenting such a well-prepared conference.
AUTHOR HELPS PEACE TAX SEVEN
Author of children’s books Christopher Gilmore is giving substantial help to the Peace Tax Seven by promising to give their legal team half of the proceeds from his new book Alice in Welfareland.
The Peace Tax Seven are British taxpayers with a conscientious objection to contributing to military expenditure through the tax system.
They are bringing a case to the European Court of Human Rights on the grounds that their rights are abused by a tax system which makes them pay for the killing of other human beings. Through their court case they are hoping to win rights for conscientious objectors to divert part of their taxes from military use to peaceful purposes such as education, health, help for the Third World and non-violent conflict resolution.
A Peace Tax Seven spokesman, Robin Brooks, welcomed the action of Christopher Gilmore and said ‘We are privileged to have this whole-hearted support for our case.’
